1. What is Erasmus
The Erasmus+ Program, officially known as the "European Union Action Program for the Mobility of University Students" or simply "Erasmus+," is a European Union initiative that promotes cooperation between higher education institutions and allows students and academics to gain experience at universities in different countries.
Initially launched as a student mobility program under the name "Erasmus" in 1987, this program has expanded over time to include youth and education fields. These expansions were carried out under the headings of "Socrates," "Leonardo da Vinci," "Lifelong Learning," and "Youth" respectively, and most recently continued under the name "Erasmus+" from 2014 to 2020.
With the EU2020 Strategy, the European Union has decided to place more emphasis on education and training. In this context, the Erasmus+ Program aims to support individuals in gaining broader and higher-level skills by providing opportunities to study and work abroad. The program is implemented in education, training, learning, internships, voluntary work, youth, and sports fields to improve the quality of higher education. The Erasmus+ Program offers financial grant support to all participating countries through National Agencies. In Turkey, the institution providing grant support in this field is the European Union Education and Youth Programs Center Presidency.
